The city has a dense network of schools and pre-school facilities, and also elementary artistic schools on the level of elementary schools. Professional education can be acquired on 21 state and private secondary schools and vocational schools of various types that prepare students and disciples for practical employment or for study at various type of universities.
The University of J. E. Purkynje has four faculties – pedagogical faculty, faculty of social and economic studies, faculty of ecology and faculty of applied arts and design, with a total of 5 800 students.
